Bramvia — Business Central Experts

What a US winery, brewery or distillery needs from its ERP: lots and vintages, bonded and tax-paid inventory, blending and bottling, and the TTB operations reports and excise returns built from the same transactions.

Short answer: a US winery, brewery or distillery reports to the TTB on its own operations and pays federal excise tax on what leaves bond, on top of state excise, the three-tier system and label approvals. The TTB reports depend on the premises: the Report of Wine Premises Operations for wineries, the Brewer's Report of Operations for breweries, and monthly production, storage and processing reports for distilled spirits plants, plus the excise tax return. What a producer needs from its ERP is to record each movement once (receipt, fermentation, blending, aging, bottling, removal) and build those reports from it, with bonded and tax-paid inventory kept apart. Business Central handles lots, vintages, tanks and barrels as bins, blending and bottling as production, and separate bonded and tax-paid locations. TTB reporting is added with an extension.

Interactive example: SILICIE excise entries from winery movements. Records winery movements (grape intake, fermentation, racking, bottling and dispatch) with volume and strength, and shows the Spanish SILICIE excise entry generated at once with pure-alcohol litres calculated: 6,000 l at 13.5% vol is 810 l. FAQ

Does Business Central file TTB reports out of the box? No. It records the transactions; a TTB reporting extension builds the operations reports and excise returns from them, so nothing is keyed twice.

Can we keep the reduced craft rates straight? The reduced federal rates under the Craft Beverage Modernization Act depend on volumes removed, which an ERP that tracks removals by date and product makes straightforward to report.
